The Illustrated Brief

  • Claremont Commercial

The brief was to create five offices out of the existing three:

The building is in a prime position, with beautiful mountain views. I wanted to maximize the view allowing as much natural light to filter into each new space.

By creating a less formal, open plan design we were able to achieve this. Dry walling with glass sections throughout worked very effectively and we were still able to create a small breakaway area within this new office space.

The redevelopment progressed with the affected few re-routed to continue their daily work, using the boardroom as temporary office space! Great attention was given to access points, tidiness and minimal noise throughout the process. This worked extremely efficiently.

In addition to the offices, we were briefed to give their reception area an entirely new identity.

The difference here was that unlike a home, where you are generally dealing with one or two people, we had to bear in mind that there were approximately ten people who spent 8 hours of their day here and a certain image needed to be projected.

The existing reception interior has a formal elegance with solid maple doors, skirtings and architraves. The elaborate flooring and carpeting needed to be considered whilst wanting to achieve a more contemporary uncluttered approach.

There was a lovely light mocca colour within the carpet and the existing floor tiles, so that became the cue for the walls and all the décor respectively. Just one wall with a metallic wall covering gave the entrance to the boardroom a lift and somehow gave a warmth to the overall space.

The client further requested that the seated section be a breakaway office as well as a waiting area and here the glass sliders were introduced. The opaque mid section allows for just that little bit of privacy, whilst once again keeping an open feel. It all just works together quite seamlessly and a calm, contemporary elegance was achieved.

The art works were also tailor made for the space, with the extension of the colours of the chosen fabrics within the upholstery of the custom-made corner suite and scatter cushions.
